The Annual Burghausen Jazz Festival

known as "Jazzwoche" or Jazz Week

The Annual Burghausen Jazz Festival called "Jazzwoche" (Jazz Week) will celebrate it’s fortieth year of existence this coming March 2009.

In the ten years since I first discovered Burghausen and the Burghausen Jazz scene, I have only had the good fortune to take part in the annual Jazz festival on two occasions, in 2006 and 2008, so I am particularly looking forward to this year’s Jubilee Festival.

Here is the official program for the 2009 Jazz Woche, followed by the programs for the 2006 and 2008 festivals.

In the ensuing weeks and months I intend to flesh-out the programs of the two past festivals with reviews, observations and commentaries on the concerts I attended, as well as cover the coming festival in March.

The Jubilee Program for Burghausen’s Fortieth Annual Jazz Week

On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, Jazz Week will be extended by one day, officially opening on Wednesday, 18 March 2009.

This year Burghausen will hold its first presentation of the “Burghausen European Junior Jazz Award.” The selection of a winner from among five finalists will take place in the town hall on the evening of Tuesday, 17 March 2009.

The winner of the Award will play the first concert of this year’s Jazz Week, officially opening the Festival, on Wednesday evening, 18 March 2009.

There will be an exhibition of jazz photos by Oskar Henn in the main hall of the Burghausen Kreissparkasse Bank from 13 March to 3 April 2009.
